Other writings

Although Quentin is best known for his books, principally of course 'The Naked Civil Servant', his writing skills spaned a number of media, including stage plays, radio plays, poetry, book reviews and forwards, tv adds and of course his own stage shows.

The Threshold Theatre

In 1940 Quentin got involved in a small theatre in Notting Hill.
He was commissioned to write a revue, followed by an 'anti-Pirandello' (less concerned with the pyschology of people than with the lives they lead) play which the actress Estelle Murison (who was one of the directors said was "wholly brilliant and playable"), and a drama 'A Man with a Sword' set in the Trojan Wars.
In the end however none of these reached production.
Studio Film Laboratories

During the second world war his lettering skills found him employment in the Studio Film Laboratories which made documentary films.
The Genius of Mervyn Peake

In October 1946 he had the first of a number of articles published in the then new magazine 'Facet'.
In this article he discusses the talents of Mr Peake, even admitting that in some instances he displays such a level of genius as to render even Quentin speechless.
Og and Other Ogres

Well not writing, but I thought this might be interesting to know.
In 1946 Quentin's artistic skills were recognised when he illustrated this book by Reginald Reynolds.
Patronage in the Age of Negation.

In February 1947 'Facet' published an article by Quentin in which he discusses the history of art and argues that it is 'an elaborate striptease act'.
Spring

In summer 1947 'Facet' published this poem by Quentin.
Letting a Flat

A radio play broadcast by the BBC in 1949 is about the life of a number of robots, including a policeman and a housemaid.
The Black Thing

A radio play broadcast by the BBC in 1949 is about a man who is pursued by a mysterious black object, which eventually drives him insane and he murders his wife.
