1993 - Summer
I have been to Cleveland - again. The last time I was there, it snowed. On this occasion, the weather was sunny and pleasantly warm. . . In the evening Orlando was paraded before the amazed eyes of the local inhabitants while I was given a pleasant outdoor meal, after which I faced the audience and tried to justify my appearance in the film.
At dawn the following day, I went to a television station, where I said the usual things in the usual way
I have also been to Toronto - again and again. . . This time I was there at the invitation of Reliance Releasing, personified by two delightful young women who housed me in the Four Seasons Hotel in great luxury. There I was interviewed from ten in the morning until five in the afternoon. . . I had a wonderful time but, as always, the greatest pleasure of travel is that it makes you glad to be home - however dreary that might be.
I have now been sent to Miami. . . I stayed at the Century Hotel on Ocean Drive . . . I remained comfortable until I was dragged on to the beach where, amid wind and sand, though fully clothed, I was photographed holding a surfboard. Where such a picture could be used I cannot imagine.
Since then I have been to Dayton in Ohio. . . Orlando was being shown at an art house called the Neon Cinema, to whose denizens I tried to justify the film. I really like Dayton. . . If I were not still waiting for the opportunity to rule the world, I could live there.
Finally I have been to Staten Island. . . The occasion of my visit was a picnic organised by a politically active lesbian group called Lambda, in front of whose banner I was photographed
