1993 - Spring
On the first Sunday that the weather was like spring, I was taken to Chinatown to be interviewed by an English television company. . . I was asked what was wrong with the world. I managed to refrain from saying 'the people' and said 'the music'.
I've been to Los Angeles. . . I stayed this time at the Bel Air Hotel, and the high spot of my visit came when in the lobby I met Miss DeMornay, who was the star of one of my favourite movies, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. . . I was interviewed by the Los Angeles Times and many more papers and radio shows. . .
I was worn out, but it was fun. Los Angeles is New York lying down.
The actual purpose of my visit to California was to meet Mr Jay Leno and to be on his television programme. He was charming and, on being told that if you can live on peanuts and champagne you need never but food again, he handed me a bowl of nuts and opened a bottle of champagne. My spies tell me that he seemed nervous, but I did not notice this. I had a wonderful time.
