Back to the King's Head (1976)

The difference between my life before and after The Naked Civil Servant was broadcast became most clearly visible at the King's Head. When I returned there in the spring of 1976, the little huddle of embarrassed friends sitting at one table had become a crowd so numerous that some members of the audience were obliged to lean against the back wall of the room.

On one occasion Mrs. Churchill brought Lady Diana Cooper who looked magnificent in a huge black hat, as though she were in mourning for Ascot.
