An LP of my show
The idea put forward by the man who came to my dressing-room at the Player's Theater was a little more realistic; he only wanted to record my speaking voice. . .The stage manager and I rushed straight from MacDougal Street to a nearby recording studio. This differed from the room in Denmark Street in that this time I and the microphone were in a larger room filled with conscripted listeners.
The occasion was an ordeal because, by the time the record was complete, it was well after midnight and I had been speaking for four-and-a-half hours but the evening was made worthwhile by my discovery that in the audience was Miss Comden.
When the record was released in England, to promote it I was whirled round Britain by a member of the staff of EMI. I asked him what the three mysterious letters meant and he replied, 'Every man for 'Imself'
